No Sex Differences in Inflammatory Response and Vascular Function During Low Estrogen Phase

چکیده

Premenopausal women experience a lower incidence of cardiovascular disease as compared to age-matched men, partially due the cardioprotective effects estrogen. Acute inflammation increases pro-inflammatory cytokine production and reduces nitric oxide bioavailability, resulting in impaired vascular function. Estrogen has both anti-inflammatory pro-vasodilatory properties. During high estrogen mid-luteal phase menstrual cycle, sex differences function inflammatory responses induced have been observed premenopausal with men. However, limited knowledge exists regarding independent acute inflammation. Thus, our objective was evaluate inflammation- reduced influence concentration. Due dampening estrogen-related when concentrations are low, we hypothesized that would greater response men exhibit similar In double-blind crossover sham-controlled study 15 (21 ± 3y) 2y), assessed interleukin-6 concentration ([IL-6]) via brachial artery flow-mediated dilation (FMD) at baseline (BL), 24 hours (24H), 48 (48H) after influenza vaccine administration. Women were studied circulating levels typically low (early follicular or placebo pill oral contraceptive pills) between sexes. Following inflammation, sexes exhibited an increase [IL-6] 24H (BL v 24H: p=0.0049; p=0.0015) returned near by 48H 48H: p=0.43; p=0.29; (pg/mL): BL: 0.56 0.5, 1.14 0.7, 0.59 0.4; 0.38 0.2, 1.05 0.2). Low-dose estrogen supplementation improves vascular function in hypogonadal men.

It is widely accepted that in women, estrogens provide protection against the development of cardiovascular disease. However, the cardiovascular role of estrogens in men remains uncertain, despite preliminary evidence that endogenous estrogens produced by aromatization of androgenic precursors are of physiological importance. Hypogonadal men have very low levels of circulating estrogen. We stud...

The Differences in Sensorimotor Rhythm Power During Performing In-Phase and Anti-Phase Patterns in Bimanual Coordination

Purpose: The sensorimotor cortex oscillations (frequency ranging between 12 and 15 Hz), commonly known as Sensorimotor Rhythm (SMR) has previously displayed a promising link between the performance of the visuomotor related to skill execution and part of psychology that is adaptive (e.g. the process linked attention which is automatic). This study examined the extent of SMR power in the executi...

Sex differences in cardiovascular function during submaximal exercise in humans

Differences in cardiovascular function between sexes have been documented at rest and maximal exercise. The purpose of this study was to examine the sex differences in cardiovascular function during submaximal constant-load exercise, which is not well understood. Thirty-one male and 33 female subjects completed nine minutes moderate and nine minutes vigorous intensity submaximal exercise (40 an...

Sex differences in negative affective response during nicotine withdrawal.

This study examined physiological indicants of the neurobiological mediators of negative affect during acute nicotine withdrawal. Eighty subjects (41 male) were assigned to one of four groups (24-h deprived or nondeprived dependent smokers, occasional smokers, and nonsmokers) and participated in an instructed fear conditioning paradigm involving cued administration of electric shock. Negative a...
